DETROIT (WWJ) — A retired Detroit landlord is in police custody after allegedly killing another man during what police describe as a landlord-tenant dispute.
The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at a home on Kentfield in a neighborhood near Grand River and Evergreen on the city's west side, according to Deputy Detroit Police Chief Jacqueline Pritchett.
Responding police officers found a man in his 40s who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
While the shooting remains under investigation, Pritchett told reporters Tuesday the suspect had been taken into custody and the suspected murder weapon had been recovered.
The suspected shooter, a man in his 50s, was the victim's landlord and retired from the Detroit Police Department about eight years ago, according to Pritchett.
Authorities have not released any information about the apparent dispute between the landlord and tenant that led to the alleged shooting.
Officials did not say how long the victim had lived at the home prior to the shooting.
Pritchett said a warrant request was expected to be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday. The suspect's name has not been released.
