A $200 reward is being offered for the return of a World War II trench knife that was accidentally sold during a yard sale last week.
Brian Bethke says the knife was all he had left from his grandfather.
It was sold by accident during a moving sale in Pinckney last Thursday for $20. To add insult to injury, it was sold on what would have been his grandfather's 100th birthday.
Bethke says he just wants the family heirloom back, and he's willing to pay for it.
"We are just asking if anyone knew about it or if the guy who has it wants, we'll buy it back from him, we'll pay him more than what he bought it for," he told FOX 2. "Just because it's an heirloom and something we want to keep in the family."
Bethke told FOX that he just recently learned more about what his grandfather, Duane Elroy Bethke, accomplished during World War II while cleaning out his house after his death in 2014. Duane Bethke was lead bombardier of 1,000 planes.
"His mission was to take out Adolf Hitler, they were on their way in the plane but had to call it off because the weather wasn't right," Brian told FOX 2. "He was a great guy. You would never known the mission he went on, and all the things he has done. To me, on a personal level, it means a lot because it is all I have left of him."
