(WWJ) A Lansing-area man with a diverse resume is the latest person from Michigan to be charged in connection with the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.
Federal authorities say photos and video on social media showed 40-year-old Logan Barnhart — wearing sunglasses and a a Caterpillar hoodie — using a flagpole to assault Metropolitan Police officers on the day of the siege.
Acting on tips from the public, the FBI said it used images shared on Barnhart's since-deleted Instagram account to identify him.
According to a report by Huffington Post, Barnhart described himself as a "physique competitor," worked as a heavy equipment operator, and modeled for romance novel covers. Photos of Barnhart appeared on books including "Crash and Burn," and “Stepbrother UnSEALed: A Bad Boy Military Romance.”
HuffPost said Barnhart was also an ardent Trump supporter, often sharing right-wing memes alongside shirtless photos of himself.
Barnhart was arrested Tuesday and appeared in federal court in Grand Rapids, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. He is charged with six counts, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted area and engaging in physical violence, according an indictment.
Barnhart was released on a $5,000 bond with the conditions that he cannot leave his home except for work, church, education or medical treatment. He was also ordered not to use alcohol or possess firearms.
Barnhart's arrest brings the total number of Michigan residents charged in the riots to 12.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 25.
