TROY (WWJ) -- A Roseville man is expected to face charges after police said he drove drunk on I-75, and was arrested in a Troy restaurant parking lot last weekend.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, Troy Police officers responded to the area of northbound I-75 and Big Beaver Rd. on reports of a possible drunk driver.

Witnesses said a swerving Ford Fusion had struck both the median and the shoulder side guardrails on the freeway.

Officers tracked the suspect vehicle to the parking lot of the Red Robin, at Crooks Rd. and Corporate Dr., and noted that the car had damage consistent with crashing into the freeway guardrail.

In speaking with the driver, identified as a 44-year-old Roseville man, officers "noted his dexterity was poor, his movements were slow and lethargic, and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person," according to the police report.

After failing a field sobriety test, police said the driver tested at .27% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) on a preliminary breath test. That's more than three times the legal limit to drive under Michigan law.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up, where police said he agreed to take a chemical breath test.

After police said the man was unable to provide an adequate breath sample after multiple attempts, his blood was drawn by medical personnel.

The case was turned over to the Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned. The man's name was not immediately released.
