DETROIT (WWJ) — A teenage girl from Roseville is facing charges for allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old boy at Campus Martius Park in Detroit over the weekend.

The 16-year-old girl has been charged with one count of felonious assault in connection with the stabbing, which happened around 6:30 p.m. near the park in the heart of Downtown Detroit, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Detroit police were called to the 1000 block of Woodward Avenue after getting reports of a stabbing. When they showed up, they found the teen boy suffering from a stab wound in the stomach.

The boy, a Detroit resident, was taken in an ambulance to the hospital. While the prosecutor’s office did not update the teen’s condition on Monday, authorities said over the weekend he was in temporary serious condition.

The stabbing allegedly stemmed from an argument between the two teens. When things escalated, the girl allegedly pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed him several times in the stomach. Authorities have not said what sparked the argument.

Detroit police arrested the girl a short time after the stabbing. The teen suspect, whose name is not being released, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday afternoon at the Juvenile Detention Facility in the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center. After the preliminary hearing, all future hearings will be held in Macomb County because she is a Roseville resident, according to the prosecutor’s office.
