ROSEVILLE (WWJ) A Roseville officer who was injured during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect is home from the hospital and “resting comfortably with his family”, police said in a social media statement.

Roseville Police said the incident occurred on Friday, January 23, on Kathy Street near Frazho and Hayes roads while officers responded to a domestic violence report.

Multiple sources report the suspect fired shots at officers through the window with a “high-powered assault rifle.”

The gunfire struck one officer. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

“We heard the call on the radio that every police officer prepares for but never wants to hear… Officer down,” Roseville Police said in a statement on Facebook. “This is your co-worker, fellow brother or sister, friend, but most importantly… A family member who needs your help.”

According to the Detroit News; the suspect, 30, is a former Detroit Police officer. WWJ Newsradio 950 has not been able to independently confirm this information.

The Roseville officer’s name was not released. The Roseville Police Department thanked other law enforcement agencies for how quickly they came to the officer's aid.

“They...stepped up to the call for assistance and battled bitter cold temperatures to restore calm and peace to the community,” the statement read. “…(The well-wished support) has been overwhelming, but is very much appreciated.”
