SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – For the better part of five decades, Specs Howard School of Media Arts has been a pioneer in the radio and media industries.
Now, the school is “passing the baton.” Joining forces with Lawrence Technological University, the school will now be known as “Specs at LTU.”
The family of founder Specs Howard says they’re “thrilled that dad’s legacy will carry on” in this new era.
Specs and LTU are celebrating the move later this month with a tailgate and tribute to Specs Howard at LTU’s first football game of the season on Aug. 27 in Southfield.
The event will feature Specs Howard Alumni, past instructors, staff, students, Hall of Famers and special guests.
Starting at 5 p.m., there will be a tailgate BBQ and the celebration will continue at the game itself, which kicks off at 7 p.m., starting with a coin toss and tribute to Specs Howard. The family will be honored by sitting with LTU President and CEO, Dr. Tarek Sobh.
Additionally, the first 100 Specs Howard alumni to register to attend will receive a special commemorative coin with the Specs Howard classic radio button on one side and the LTU brand on the other, celebrating the university’s 90 years.
“We hope you will join us on August 27th to show your Specs Howard pride along with your gratitude and appreciation for a gentleman who changed generations in the areas of broadcast media, radio, video and design,” the family said in a letter to alumni.
