ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- A seasonal ice rink is coming to a city in Oakland County.

Following more than an hour of debate, Royal Oak city commissioners unanimously voted in favor of the proposal for the rink that will be located in the Centennial Commons downtown park.

Jon Witz, producer of Arts, Beats, and Eats presented the proposal on Tuesday night, saying he will team up with the Downtown Development Authority to pay for the project.

City Commissioner Brandon Kolo says every contribution from the community will also help to mitigate the cost.

"Every person that laces up a pair of skates that they rent from us and jumps on the rink brings that cost down -- and every new sponsorship brings that cost down," said Kolo.

Royal Oak Mayor Mike Fournier showed his excitement for the project, saying, "I think we all agree this is going to be magical."

The only hang-ups for the commissioners were on how to pay for energy and security for the rink, but they were all resolved following several amendments to the original proposal.
