(WWJ) - UAW President Shawn Fain didn’t announce any expansions to the strike during his update on day 36 of the strike, but told members to be ready at any time.

Fain said that in the last 24 hours, two of the Big Three had made new offers, which he said showed there was still negotiating room.

“Despite all the bluster about how much the companies have stretched, there’s clearly still room to move,” Fain said.

Fain mentioned plants for each company that should be paying attention. He mentioned the Arlington and Flint Truck plants, both owned by GM, Stellantis’ Sterling Heights Assembly Plant and the plant in Kokomo, Indiana and the Ford Rouge Plant.

While GM and Stellantis have increased the amount they’re willing to offer, Fain said Ford hasn’t offered anything new.

“With no new plants out, both companies put a lot more money on the table. That’s because they know if they don’t move, there will be serious consequences,” Fain said.

According to Fain, there is a new resolution introduced into the U.S. Senate to stand with the UAW that has bipartisan support.

Fain believes the companies may be getting closer to accepting the demands of the UAW.

“The bottom line is we’ve got cards left to play and they’ve got money left to spend. That’s the hardest part of a strike. Right before a deal is when there is the most aggressive push for that last mile,” Fain said.

This announcement comes days after Fain called on Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford to take the steps he knows are needed to end the strike.
