ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) A shootout between drivers on I-94 in St. Clair Shores left two hospitalized.
Michigan State Police (MSP) said their Detroit Regional Communication Center was notified of a shooting that occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway near 10 Mile Road on Saturday, April 26, around 12:55 p.m.
MSP said the drivers of two vehicles-- a black Chevrolet Malibu and an unknown silver vehicle-- were shooting at each other while driving on the freeway.
The Chevrolet rear-ended a GMC Acadia, while the driver of the silver vehicle continued east on the freeway.
Both the Chevrolet and the Acadia pulled over onto the right shoulder. A passenger of the Chevrolet carried a pistol up the embankment and threw it before returning to the car, according to MSP.
Police recovered the pistol, a 9 mm Glock 19 with a switch.
St. Clair Shores Emergency Medical Services rushed two of the occupants of the Chevrolet to a hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not released. No other injuries were reported.
MSP said the crime scene is estimated to be over one mile long.
"Detectives are currently working to find the motive of this shooting and the relationship between the two vehicles,” First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said. “This is a very large scene...”
