OKEMOS (WWJ) -- Police on Friday afternoon alerted the public to a shooting in the parking lot of a popular Lansing-area mall.
At around 2 p.m. on May 30, the Meridian Township Police Department said it was investigating a shooting at the Meridian Mall, posting on Facebook: "Please avoid the East side of the Mall near the Dicks Sporting Goods entrance at this time. It is not believed that there is a continued threat to the public."
In an update shared about an hour later, police said the area has been secured and "there is no threat to the public at this time."
The mall is open for business, although a portion of the parking lot remains closed at the crime scene.

As for what happened, the police department said it responded at around 1:25 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of the mall, near Dick's Sporting Goods.
The parties involved had already fled the area by the time officers arrived, and police said it's unknown how many people were involved in the shooting.
It's also unclear if anyone was injured, as police said the investigation is ongoing.
Police did not say how many shots were fired, but photos from the scene show multiple evidence markers on the pavement.
The mall is located in Okemos, which is within Meridian Township, east of East Lansing.
