A Detroit area nonprofit reported that they rescued six starving puppies in a field in Detroit this week. The animals were rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital for care.
Detroit Pit Crew Rescue posted about their rescue on Facebook, sharing that two of the puppies were in critical condition.
“We continue to get calls regarding dogs being dumped in and around the Metro Detroit area, and it is beyond heartbreaking,” the nonprofit said on Facebook.
Puppy dumping has seemed to be a trend as of late, according to the nonprofit. The group is fighting to make sure that dogs throughout Detroit are not abandoned without help.
“These poor puppies were more victims of this dumping trend, and we are thankful that we were able to rescue them before anything even worse happened to them.” they wrote. “As an organization, our focus is primarily on the injured and sick dogs in Detroit, and we are doing our best to help as many of these dogs as we can.”
Theresa Sumpter, the founder, and director of Detroit Pit Crew, told Fox2 the pups appeared to be eight weeks old and had been left for several days.
Two of the puppies are still hospitalized, and the other four were stable enough to be sent to foster homes.
