(WWJ) The only person aboard is OK after a small plane crashed into a pond, Sunday evening in Lyon Township.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said it happened in the 28000 Block of Oakmonte Circle East, in the Mill River subdivision near Milford Road, shortly before 7:30 p.m.
The pilot, a 24-year-old Livonia man, was able to get out of the ultralight glider airplane and pull it to shore.
He said he had taken off from the Oakland County Southwest Airport in New Hudson and had been in the air for about ten to 15 minutes before his engine failed, causing him to force a landing into the pond.
The man was not injured, but the plane was severely damaged.
The FAA and NTSB were notified and advised that due to the type of aircraft, they would not be responding to investigate.
