AUGUSTA TWP. (WWJ) — A pilot is hospitalized after a small plane crash in Washtenaw County on Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 21 near the Augusta Woods Mobile Home Park near Bemis and Rawsonville Roads in Augusta Township, south of Ypsilanti.

The Augusta Township Fire Chief told WWJ Newsradio 950 the pilot, a 75-year-old man from Ypsilanti, overshot a runway and ended up hitting two trees near the mobile home park.

The two trees likely stopped the plane from crashing into a nearby home.

The pilot was listed in stable condition at the hospital with minor injuries.

The FAA is sending a team to investigate and determine whether a mechanical issue or pilot error was to blame.
