Southbound I-75 closed in downtown Detroit this weekend for bridge repairs

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A stretch of I-75 is closed in downtown Detroit this weekend for repair work on the John R Street bridge.

The Michigan Department of Transportation announced that southbound I-75 will be closed between I-375 and M-10 (The Lodge) after the afternoon commute on Friday, Aug. 12, through early Monday.


Starting Friday night at 7 p.m., crews began blocking off the stretch, MDOT said.

MDOT said the exit ramps from southbound I-75 to Grand River Ave., will also be closed during construction.

MDOT's recommended detour is southbound I-75 to westbound I-94, then eastbound I-96 to rejoin southbound I-75.

Local traffic can take:

- Southbound I-75 to Madison St.
- Southbound I-75 to southbound I-375 to Lafayette St./Monroe St.
- Southbound I-75 to Mack Ave. to Woodward Ave.
- Southbound I-75 to westbound Davison Fwy, to southbound M-10 (The Lodge) to Grand River Ave.

The freeway is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15.
