LANSING (WWJ) -- In an effort to keep everyone alive on I-75, Michigan State Police are boosting efforts to enforce traffic laws next week in order to reduce crashes statewide.

Beginning on Sunday, Aug. 7, and running through Saturday, Aug. 13, Michigan State Police motor carrier officers and troopers will focus enforcement on I-75 from the Michigan/Ohio state line to the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie in the Upper Peninsula.

The “Stay Alive on I-75” initiative is part of the statewide Drive Toward Zero Deaths traffic safety campaign, which is based on the national strategy on highway safety that seeks to reduce the number of traffic deaths nationwide.

“This enforcement effort is part of our commitment to increasing traffic safety and reducing crashes,” stated Capt. Richard Arnold, commander of the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. “This coordinated operation seeks to increase awareness of dangerous driving behaviors through high visibility enforcement on the I-75 freeway.”

During this initiative, MSP will focus on violations that are most likely to contribute to a crash, which include distracted driving, following too close, improper passing, speeding, improper lane use and slow down and mover over violations. The troopers will focus on vehicles of all types.
