SOUTHGATE (WWJ) -- A Downriver high school was closed, just as students were arriving on Wednesday, after a bullet was found in a classroom.
Officials with the Southgate Community School District said Anderson High School will be closed for the day on Oct. 8.
Officials said the bullet was found on the floor of the junior ROTC classroom first thing in the morning, and was brought to school administrators by the JROTC officer.
The Southgate Police Department was called for a search of the building with a K-9 unit.
Students were initially planned to wait in the auditorium while police investigated, but the superintendent decided it would be best just to cancel class for the day.
The superintendent said Dean Transportation would pick up bussed high school students and return them to their stops after elementary students were dropped off. Parents were told pick up their high school students who don't ride the bus.
This does not include JROTC students, who were were speaking with police and would not be immediately released, the district said.
The superintendent said the status of afternoon extracurricular activities would be announced later in the day.
All other schools in the Southgate Community School District remain open.
