Speed, alcohol contributed to tragic semi truck vs. motorcycle crash that killed 2 in Monroe County: MSP

A motorcyclist and his passenger are dead after troopers said they slammed into a semi truck on a Monroe County highway early Saturday morning.

MONROE COUNTY (WWJ) - A motorcyclist and his passenger are dead after troopers said they slammed into a semi truck on a Monroe County highway early Saturday morning.

Troopers with Michigan State Police's Monroe Post said they were called out to the scene of the crash on US-24 south of I-275 freeway around 12:25 a.m. on August 5 where they found a couple had sustained fatal injuries.

The victims, a 46-year-old male from Carleton, MI., and a 46-year-old female from Toledo, OH, were declared dead at the scene.

Through a preliminary investigation, troopers found that the Carleton man was driving a Harley Davidson Motorcycle with the woman as his passenger when they slammed into a semi truck while exiting from a private drive heading northbound on US-24.

It is unclear if the semi truck driver was hunt

At this time, troopers said speed and alcohol both appear to have contributed to the crash.

Troopers were assisted on scene by personnel from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Ash Township and Berlin Township Fire Departments and Monroe County Ambulance.
