Speeding motorcyclist killed after slamming into back of vehicle on I-96: police

State police said a 46-year-old Detroit man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on I-96 early Saturday morning after the motorcycle he was riding rear-ended a vehicle at high speed.

DETROIT (WWJ) - State police said a 46-year-old Detroit man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on I-96 early Saturday morning after the motorcycle he was riding rear-ended a vehicle at high speed.

Troopers were dispatched to the crash just after 3:30 a.m. on eastbound I-96 near Livernois and closed the freeway to investigate.

An initial report found the driver of the sport motorcycle was traveling at an "excessive speed" before it crashed into the backend of a Chrysler 300 that was traveling in the left lane.

The driver of the Chrysler was unharmed, but the motorcyclist died as a result of his injuries; police said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

Additional details and the names of the people involved in the crash were not released.

MSP said the investigation is ongoing.
