DETROIT (WWJ) - Troopers are urging drivers to slow down in wet conditions across Metro Detroit freeways after a speeding semi truck slammed into a median wall on I-75 Saturday morning.

Michigan State Police said a semi-tractor trailer with Ontario plates was traveling too fast for conditions on I-75 near Schaefer Ave. when the driver lost control and crashed into the center median wall just before 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 14.

The crash forced MSP to the freeway down to one lane in both directions as multiple first responders, including the Detroit Fire Department, worked the scene.

At this time, the roadway will remain partially closed as clean up efforts on the northbound side continue. Repair work on the damaged media barrier is also underway.

MSP 1st. Lt. Mike Shaw said drivers need to be traveling no faster than the posted speed limit, especially during inclement weather.

"I really don't know a better way to say if the weather is bad, slow down," Shaw stated in a social media post. "It doesn't matter if you are driving a semi, a Yugo or a motorcycle. You have to slow down in the rain, or soon snow, to avoid a preventable crash!"
