Spotters report tornado sighting in south-central Michigan

BRANCH COUNTY (WWJ) -- The National Weather Service is working to confirm a tornado in lower Michigan.

Spotters reported the tornado near Coldwater in Branch County yesterday, but it has not yet been confirmed, according to WWJ's Beth Fisher.

National Weather Service meteorologist Amos Dodson said that the reports came as strong winds tore across Michigan during a stormy Sunday night.

“We had a few reports of trees down in that area and all across southern-lower Michigan,” he told WWJ. “Winds of 60 to 70 miles per hour is usually what it takes to knock trees and large limbs down.”

Dodson also added that there were reports of a tree falling on a house on Paw Paw Lake, and the NWS is working with emergency management in Branch County to see if there was any further damage.

As of Monday, there have been no reports of injuries.
