REDFORD CHARTER TWP. (WWJ) - Over 3,100 students remained out of school Wednesday after education administrators in Wayne County say they are continuing clean up efforts after a cyber attack on Tuesday.
The South Redford School District was closed for the second day in row after Cyber Forensic teams worked to restore systems to normal operations after the district's data security was compromised, officials said on the district website.
"Student and staff data security continues to be a top priority for the South Redford School District," the statement read. "Again, we appreciate the patience and understanding of our community as we navigate this difficult situation. This is a time intensive process and one that we continue to take seriously."
The district has advised students, staff and parents not use any District-issued devices -- emails can be accessed on computers and other electronic devices not given out from the district.
The exact nature and extent of the attack have not been clarified, but a report from WDIV in Detroit says more than 3,000 students and their families’ personal information may have been exposed.
“Student and staff data security continues to be a top priority for the South Redford School District,” a statement from the district Tuesday evening said.
