TROY (WWJ) — A St. Clair Shores man started his new year off with a drunk driving arrest after Troy police found a flask in his Jeep during a traffic stop.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the area of Big Beaver and John R Roads, according to the Troy Police Department.
Police officers pulled his 2018 Jeep Compass over after seeing the 30-year-old man commit multiple traffic violations, officials said.
When officers spoke with him, they noticed his speech was slurred and his car smelled like alcohol.
After failing several field sobriety tests, the man blew a .226% BAC on a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up.
There, the man took two chemical breath tests, coming back with results of .256% and .260% — both more than three times the legal limit.
When authorities searched the man’s Jeep, they found a flask full of alcohol in the back seat.
While the man’s high BAC falls under Michigan’s “super drunk” law, Troy police officials did not say if the man is facing any other charges. The driver’s name has not been released.
