BEVERLY HILLS (WWJ) — A State of Emergency has been declared in Beverly Hills after strong storms swept across Metro Detroit Wednesday night.
Beverly Hills was among the hardest hit areas, as the village saw fallen trees and branches, along with downed power lines.
Village officials say until further notice, residents may not park on the streets. There are several crews out removing branches and trees from streets and working on power lines in the streets.
“Removing vehicles from the streets helps our crews safely access the lines and trees,” officials said in a press release.
The area of 13 Mile and Greenfield Roads saw heavy damage. Robert Rascol with Eager Beaver Arbor Specialists in Troy is working a job in the area. He told WWJ’s Jon Hewett it’s been a long day and he expects calls to come in throughout the weekend.
“We still have a lot to go, probably a lot more that haven’t yet called or that we haven’t gotten into contact with,” he said, noting a lot of trees and limbs have come down.
Metro Detroit is expected to see more severe weather Thursday afternoon. The greatest risk of the strongest storms is in the afternoon and evening hours, with damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph possible in the Metro Detroit area, according to the National Weather Service.
