State Rep Jewell Jones charged with drunk and reckless driving with a weapon in the car

An Inkster auxiliary police officer and State Representative from Wayne County, Jewell Jones, faces felony charges following his arrest last week near Fowlerville.

Jones was arrested after a crash in Livingston County along I-96 in the early evening of April 6th. He was released the following day pending lab results.

While the specific details of the incident have yet to be released, a video made by a driver on I-96 at the time recorded a black SUV with a license plate matching Jones’ vehicle swerving in and out of traffic, according to WHMI.com.

Carolyn Henry, Chief Assistant Prosecutor of the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office, authorized charging Jewell with 4 counts of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a High Blood Alcohol Content, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Possession of a Weapon Under the Influence of alcohol and Reckless Driving.

Jewell Jones faces a maximum penalty of 2 years in prison for the Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer charges, 180 days in jail for the Operating with a High Blood Alcohol Content, 93 days in jail for Operating While Intoxicated, 93 days in jail for Possession of a Weapon under the Influence of Alcohol and 93 days for Reckless Driving.

Arraignment will be held later today before the 53rd District Court, Livingston County, Michigan.
