Sterling Heights police discover 6 kilos of cocaine during routine traffic stop

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A routine traffic stop for texting and driving resulted in a big drug bust for police in Sterling Heights Police.

A man was pulled over on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for distracted driving on Dequindre Road near Metropolitan Parkway.

When police approached the vehicle, they discovered some suspicious looking packages in his backseat.

Further investigation revealed that man had more than six kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of $650,000.

The suspect was immediately was taken into custody by police.

He was charged on Thursday with possession and intent to deliver, and is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
