CLINTON TWP (WWJ) -- Initially pulled over for not having a license plate, a 33-year-old Detroit man was arrested after Michigan State Police found an illegal firearm in his possession.

At 4:20 a.m. Sunday morning, MSP pulled the man over on I-94 in Clinton Township.

According to officials, the man's vehicle did not have a license plate. During the traffic stop, troopers also discovered that the car was unregistered and uninsured.

When asked if he had any weapons, the driver told officers there was a 9mm Springfield automatic in the pocket of the driver's side door.

Further investigation revealed the man did not have a concealed pistol license (CPL) and that the gun was stolen.

The man is now in custody until a prosecutor can review the facts of the case.
