(WWJ) Storm damage has temporarily closed a couple of popular attractions at Kensington and Stony Creek Metroparks.

Metroparks spokeswoman Danielle Mauter said popular inflatable slide at Stony Creek was damaged and will not open for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

There's also significant tree damage at the golf courses at both Stony Creek and Kensington that could impact play.

Other areas of both parks will also be closed for damage assessment and cleanup, Mauter said.

But, overall, the parks will be open and are expected to be busy.

Mauter said a visit to the Metroparks is a fun and affordable weekend activity option for many.

"We have a beautiful forecast for Memorial Day weekend, and we know that gas is getting more and more expensive, and so people are staying closer to home," Mauter said. "With all of that said, we're expecting heavier than usual traffic trying to enter the parks. So, we appreciate everybody being a little bit patient getting into the parks."

The pools, waterparks, and beaches at the Metroparks will open for the summer, starting this weekend.

There are 13 Huron-Clinton Metroparks spanning nearly 25,000 acres in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties. A 14th bonus park adds a location for events like the Metroparks Trail Challenge.
