(WWJ) - Weekend travelers might be in for some delays when a 15 mile stretch of southbound I-275 closes from late Friday night to early Monday morning as road crews get to work on repairing the deteriorating road surface.
Authorities said all lanes headed south on I-275 from I-96/M-14 interchange to I-94 will close for the scheduled repairs starting 8 p.m. Friday, June 3. The lanes will reopen starting at 5 a.m. Monday, June 6.
The southbound lanes may reopen sooner if crews are able to make the repairs faster than expected, but driver should be prepared and take alternate routes.
"Southbound I-275 traffic will be detoured via eastbound I-96 to southbound M-39, then westbound I-94 to southbound I-275," road officials said.
In addition to the southbound lanes, the following ramps will also close due to the repairs:
• Eastbound and westbound M-14 ramps to southbound I-275,
• Southbound I-275 exit/entrance ramps at Ann Arbor Road,
• Southbound I-275 exit/entrance ramps at M-153 (Ford Road),
• Southbound I-275 exit/entrance ramps at US-12 (Michigan Avenue),
• Southbound I-275 exit/entrance ramps at Ecorse Road
• Southbound I-275 exit ramps to I-94
Drivers can expect the southbound I-275 ramp to westbound M-14 to remain closed through the end of the month, road authorities said. A detour will divert drivers to eastbound I-96, then northbound Farmington Road to westbound I-96/M-14. Drivers can also seek an alternate detour at southbound I-275 to eastbound Ann Arbor Road, then northbound I-275 to westbound M-14.
Next Monday, June 13, the eastbound and westbound M-14/I-96 ramps to southbound I-275 will be closed starting at 5 a.m. through early September.
