Summer classes, activities canceled at Warren Fitzgerald High School due to emailed threat

Threats prompt closure of Warren Fitzgerald School District

WARREN (WWJ) -- The Warren Police Department is investigating a threat that prompted the cancelation of summer classes and activities at the Fitzgerald School District.

Officials said the district received the digital threats via email on Monday, prompting the closure on Tuesday (July 7, 2026).

Officers were on the scene at Fitzgerald High School at 9 Mile Rd. and Ryan, Tuesday morning.

"There's a police presence here because of disturbing emails that the school just had received, threatening to basically blow up the school and plant devices within the school," WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reported.

Police said closure is out of an abundance of caution, as investigators work to identify the source and the validity of the threats.

"While its validity has not yet been confirmed, the department treats all potential hazards to our schools with the utmost seriousness. The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our absolute priority," the Warren Police Department said, in a news release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warren PD Detective Bureau at 586-574-4810.
