MONROE, Mich. (WWJ) -- A juvenile suspect is facing multiple charges after stealing a car and leading Monroe police on a chase that ended in a crash.

It all went down Thursday morning after the owner of a home in the 500 block of E. Front Street realized their car had been stolen some time around 12:30 a.m.

Police say the unknown suspect had entered the occupied home while the homeowners were sleeping and stole the keys to the house and vehicle.

Authorities say the suspect exited the residence and stole the vehicle, which was parked in the driveway.

Police were able to track the vehicle down around 9:30 a.m., thanks to the vehicle's activated on-board location service.

An officer located the vehicle in the 800 block of S. Monroe Street and initiated a traffic stop. But the driver of the stolen vehicle punched the accelerator and refused to stop for the police.

As a pursuit continued, the suspect drove erratically, leaving the roadway multiple times and onto the terrace and sidewalk areas, according to police.

Officers deployed tire-deflating Stopsticks in the 1200 block of E. Third Street. When the suspect tried to avoid them, they lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed into an oncoming motorist, police said.

The suspect surrendered immediately and was taken into custody without incident.

Out of an abundance of caution, medical personnel were called to the scene, where all parties involved in the crash were evaluated. No injuries were reported to the suspect, the other driver or any officers at the scene.

Police say the suspect was identified as a juvenile and lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center. Their identity has not been released.

The suspect could be facing charges of fleeing and eluding police, as well as receiving and concealing stolen property.
