Suspect arrested after fatal shooting outside Southfield apartment complex: police

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Police say a suspect is now in custody in connection with a deadly shooting outside a Southfield apartment complex over the weekend.

Southfield Police said a 911 call came in at around 10:15 a.m. on Sunday about unresponsive person in the parking lot of the Riverstone Apartments, on Shiawassee, near Telegraph and 8 Mile roads.

Officers and EMS responded and found an adult male victim lying in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect — described as man, around 6’1” tall, wearing a black winter hat, with a beard — ran away from the scene.

Police were able to identify and eventually locate the suspect, WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reports.

The man is now in custody awaiting expected charges by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and the suspect knew each other, but other details about what led up to the shooting are still under investigation.

No names have been released.
