HOLLY (WWJ) -- One person is in custody after a woman texted 911, pleading for help while in a car with an armed man on the freeway in Oakland County.

At around 4:20 a.m. on Friday, Michigan State Police say they got a call from Oakland County dispatchers who passed along details about texts from a passenger in a maroon Chevy Malibu on I-75.

The woman texted that she was being assaulted by the male driver, as they were traveling northbound on I-75 near Mile Marker 93, and that he had a gun.

MSP troopers found the suspect vehicle, and pulled the driver over at Lahring Road, near Holly. Meanwhile, police said dispatchers gave updates from the open phone line overhearing the driver saying, "I ain't getting out."

While troopers spoke with the driver, they asked the female passenger in the front seat to get out of the car.

Once she was out, police said the woman told them the man had put the gun under his seat.

With the victim now safe with troopers, the driver and two more passengers were ordered out of the car. All three complied, MSP said.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault.

A Walther 9mm pistol was found on the floor of the Malibu, on the driver's side, and was seized, MSP said.

The woman was treated at the scene for her injuries, but declined to go to the hospital.

The suspect's name has not been released pending prosecutor review and an arraignment.

"Great team work between the MSP and Oakland County dispatchers to bring this to a peaceful end," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. "If you are in a domestic violence situation there is help available 24 hours a day by calling 866-864-2338." (866-VOICE-DV)
