Suspect charged in hit-and-run death of 6-year-old Redford boy listed as "habitual offender"

REDFORD CHARTER TWP (WWJ) -- A young Redford boy died of injuries sustained when he was struck by a car and dragged down a street while riding his bike in August. Six months later, a suspect has been charged in the fatal incident.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Korey Colt Thompson was arraigned on Jan. 31.


He stands accused of one count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and one count of being a habitual offender. This hit-and-run is listed as Thompson's fourth offense.

The tragedy began Aug. 10, around 8:45 p.m., near the intersection of Vassar Drive and Brady St. -- near West Grand River and 7 Mile.

6-year-old Chase Young was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a blue Chevy Impala which then dragged the boy down the street.

Witnesses later told police that two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Young was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died a week later due to the seriousness of his injuries.
