FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) An officer-involved shooting at a Frenchtown Township hotel left a suspect dead.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said it happened at Towne Place Suites by Marriot, in the area of N. Dixie Highway and I-75, on Sunday, April 26, at approximately 11 a.m. The caller reported a subject was threatening a citizen while soliciting money.
A sheriff's deputy arrived at the hotel and met the suspect. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the suspect had a knife. The deputy said he deployed his taser twice. He then told investigators he eventually fired two shots, killing the suspect.
The deputy began emergency first aid. Multiple agencies arrived at the scene: the Monroe City Police Department, Frenchtown Township Fire Department, and Monroe Community Ambulance. The latter two assisted in providing aid, according to authorities.
First responders pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.
The deputy was not hurt. In accordance with standard procedure, he'll be placed on administrative leave "pending a complete investigation of the incident", the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities contacted the Oakland County Sheriff's Office to conduct an independent review of the incident.
