WARREN (WWJ) A car struck a Detroit home and caught fire after a pursuit with Warren Police.

In a statement, Warren Police said an officer in a fully marked patrol car was on routine patrol in the area of 9 Mile and Groesbeck on Friday (6/7/24) around 7:30 p.m. when he saw a tan 2011 Chevy Traverse going about 20 miles over the posted speed limit. He tried to stop the Chevy, but the driver continued, resulting in a chase for about three miles. The officer “self terminated” the pursuit in the area of McNichols and Gratiot after he lost sight of the Chevy.

After terminating the pursuit, the officer saw the Chevy was leaking a “significant amount of fluids,” police said.

The officer followed the trail of fluids to try to find the Chevy. About ten minutes later; he received a call that the Chevy had struck a home in Detroit, and the Chevy was on fire, according to police.

Warren Police and Fire; and Detroit Police and Fire responded to the scene to find the suspect, who had run away from the scene. Warren officers eventually found a person matching the suspect’s description and pursued him on foot, they said.

A Warren officer responding to the scene of the foot pursuit was “involved in a traffic crash” with a Red Ford pickup and a silver 2015 Hyundai sedan at Pelkey and Gratiot. The officer was not hurt. The Detroit Fire Department took the people in the other vehicles the hospital “for precautionary reasons only,” according to Warren Police.

Police deployed multiple officers and K9 units to search for the suspect, who remains on the run.

The Detroit Police and Fire Department investigated the crash involving the officer. They also responded to the scene of the fire at the house.

Warren Police said they are working to obtain more information about the suspect, and this case is an “open and active investigation.”
