DETROIT (WWJ) -- A suspect is now in custody after a Downriver man was allegedly shot at on the freeway during rush hour in Detroit.
According to Michigan State Police, 911 calls came in at around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, reporting a shooting along the northbound Southfield Freeway (M-39), near Schoolcraft.
Detroit police arrived to find a car with bullet holes in it on the northbound service drive, near 8 Mile Rd.,
The driver, a 33-year-old Taylor man, told officers he'd been shot at by another driver in what investigators determined that this was "a road rage incident," MSP said.
Police said the man's vehicle was hit by bullets, but no injuries were reported.
“This appears to be another senseless incident where someone used a firearm to settle a driving dispute. We are very fortunate that no one was struck by one of these bullets," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw.
Later, MSP said evidence from the scene and witness tips pointed detectives to a suspect vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was taken in for questioning.
A handgun was also recovered, police said.
The suspect's name and other details are being withheld at this time, pending an arraignment the charges.
