DETROIT (WWJ) -- The search is on for a pair of suspects who shot and killed two parents at a gas station Monday night on the city’s west side as they sat in their car with their baby daughter.
The scene unfolded shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Monday when two 22-year-olds were sitting in their car outside the Marathon gas station on W. Warren Avenue near the Southfield Freeway.

Detroit police say two men, armed with handguns, approached the vehicle from the north, walked directly up to the car and fired shots inside.
Both parents were hit by the gunfire, but Detroit Police Cmdr. Michael McGinnis says “miraculously,” the nine-month-old, who was being held in her mother’s arms, was not hit.
Both victims, whose names have not been released, succumbed to their injuries.
The suspects fled the scene on foot and authorities are asking the public for tips in tracking them down.
Police Chief James White called it a targeted shooting.
“We know that this was a targeted hit,” White said at a press conference outside the gas station Tuesday afternoon. “This was not a random act of violence -- this was a targeted act of violence -- and we’ll be working that angle. And with that, comes a lot of investigative work that has to happen. But they were not strangers to these folks.”
Detroit police shared security camera footage of the suspects via Twitter, showing one wearing a black hoodie and black pants and the other wearing a black and red track suit.
Authorities released additional footage of the shooting late Tuesday afternoon, showing the suspects running towards the vehicle and firing shots from either side of it.
Anyone with information on the shooting should contact Detroit police or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
