(WWJ) An investigation into a report of a suspicious package led to a lockdown at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County Friday afternoon.
A message posted at 1:30 p.m. by the Michigan Air National Guard's 127th Wing said "In response to a report of a suspicious package, we are working with Macomb County Sheriff and Michigan State Police to assess the situation. We will update information as it becomes available. We appreciate the quick response of our local and state law enforcement partners and help keeping our installation and community safe."
The lockdown was ordered just after noon, according to people who were working in the area. They say it was lifted just before 2 p.m.
Michigan State Police say security forces at Selfridge requested the MSP Bomb Squad which determined the package was nothing explosive, just random electronics in a bag that was thrown over the fence.
As a precaution, the Macomb County Department of Roads closed Henry B. Joy Boulevard at Executive Drive and Irwin Drive south of Henry B. Joy Boulevard in Harrison Township due to the investigation.
