WARREN (WWJ) — An investigation is underway after an SUV crashed into a power pole in Warren Friday morning.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. in the area of 9 Mile and Groesbeck.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reported the SUV slammed head-on into the wooden pole, causing it to crack in half. He said two large, 480-volt transformers on the pole fell directly on top of the car, leaving the SUV's roof "charred."
Three people are believed to have been injured, but their conditions were not immediately clear, according to Campbell.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. It was unclear if the crash was related to the heavy overnight rain that left several area freeways and surface streets flooded.
Police and fire crews were on the scene, while DTE crews arrived just after 9 a.m. to begin sorting the situation. Campbell reported multiple businesses in the area are closed due to the power outage.
Southbound Groesbeck is closed, while the northbound lanes remained open and 9 Mile was down to one lane in each direction, as of 9:15 a.m.
