DETROIT (WWJ) — A Taylor man is in police custody after allegedly pointing a gun at another driver on I-75 in Detroit during the Tuesday morning commute.

Around 9 a.m. Michigan State Police troopers were called to northbound I-75 in the area of Michigan Avenue on Detroit's west side after a driver reported the road rage incident.

The victim told police he was driving north on I-75 near the Southfield Freeway in Lincoln Park when the driver of a Chevy Malibu "began to engage in road rage with them," according to MSP.

While the suspect was behind the victim, he noticed a laser light hit the interior of his car near the rear-view mirror. Several miles later the Malibu pulled in front of the victim and the driver hung a pistol out of the window near Michigan Avenue, MSP officials said.

The driver allegedly pulled on a ski mask before passing the victim, who noticed the gun had a laser light attachment on it.

MSP officials say investigators were able to use technology and the information from the victim to develop a possible suspect.

Authorities eventually found and arrested a 32-year-old Taylor man who was in possession of a pistol that had a laser attachment. A search of his vehicle led to the discovery of an extended 9mm magazine, a 16-round 9mm magazine and body armor.

The suspect is being held in jail, pending prosecutor review. His name has not been released.

No other details regarding the road rage incident have been released.

"This was outstanding work by troopers to get this dangerous suspect and his firearm off the street," MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said. "I want to remind drivers to not engage with those drivers that appear to show signs of rage. Call 911 and let police deal with these drivers."

No injuries were reported.
