Taylor man is 7th Michigander charged with storming U.S. Capitol during January riot

(WWJ) Federal agents have taken a Taylor man into custody in connection with the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Authorities say 26-year-old Jeramiah Caplinger was arrested Tuesday morning and appeared in federal court Tuesday afternoon to face several charges.

Caplinger, in an interview with MLIVe posted to YouTube in February, openly admitted being part of the group that stormed the Capitol building that day.

"(I) looked around, starting following people to the rotunda. Well, what they were calling the rotunda," he said, in the video. "And just looked around for the most part." He then described what he saw inside the building — including statues and a painting.

Caplinger said, however, he wasn't happy that some people in the crowd were vandalizing the building, and when he saw police approaching with guns he left.

He told the Detroit News that he didn't break anything or hurt anyone.

Caplinger is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds and climbing on U.S. Capitol grounds.

Six other men from Michigan have been charged previously in connection with the riot; including, most recently, another Downriver resident.

Anthony Williams, 45, of Southgate, was arrested late last month on similar charges. He awaits further court proceedings.
