(WWJ) A Downriver man was killed in a fatal snowmobile crash in the Upper Peninsula over the weekend.

Michigan State Police said investigators were called to the scene of the crash in Munising Township, about 50 miles east of Marquette, around 12:30 p.m. Friday (1/14).

The driver was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.

He was identified as a 43-year-old Taylor man. His name has not yet been released.

State Police said he was going around a curve and struck a tree. He was traveling with a group of snowmobilers, according to investigators.

Speed is also believed to be a factor, investigators said.

A second snowmobile crash on Friday evening, in nearby Au Train Township, claimed the life of an Ohio man, 33.
