18-year-old suspect arrested and charged in stabbing outside residence hall at Oakland University

(WWJ) A Rochester teen is facing attempted murder charges after he was arrested in connection with a stabbing on the campus of Oakland University one week ago.

OU Police Chief Mark Gordon told reporters that the 18-year old suspect was arrested during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

At a news conference Thursday, Gorden said he's hoping students and others on campus can breathe a sigh of relief.

"The person responsible is in custody," the chief reiterated. "Again, I just want to emphasize we believe this was a targeted event, that there's not an ongoing threat to the community. There person is in custody that's responsible for this."

"Again," Gorden added, "don't let your guard down. We still want you to practice safe practices as you move around the campus.

The 18-year-old victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to McLaren Hospital. Gordon said he is recovering.

The chief said that none of those involved were OU students, but were visiting friends at Van Wagoner Hall when the stabbing happened on Feb. 5, outside the dorm building.

The suspect is expected to appear before a judge on Friday. His name and information will be released at this time.
