DETROIT (WWJ) A young Detroit man is behind bars after he allegedly kidnapped his 12-year-old brother and his mother, Michigan State Police (MSP) said.

MSP said Detroit Police responded to a "domestic assault and kidnapping" of a 12-year-old boy by his 18-year-old brother on Tuesday, February 17, around 7:10 p.m. The caller identified herself as the mother and told dispatchers she was also in the SUV. She described the vehicle as a burgundy Jeep Grand Cherokee with "front and rear damage."

Authorities said Detroit Police officers attempted to stop the suspect's SUV at speeds of 25 miles per hour, but the driver did not pull over.

According to MSP, troopers spotted the SUV near Dix and Riverbank and performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver). The pursuit came to an end. Authorities arrested the suspect and turned him over to Detroit Police officers. They also rescued the victims.

No one was hurt, police said.

A motive for the kidnapping and assault remains under investigation.

"Great work by all involved to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion," First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said. "This is another example of officers, troopers and dispatchers working together to keep our communities safe."
