(WWJ) A young Muskegon man is facing felony charges, and potential life in prison, after illegal drugs he allegedly sold led to a fatal overdose in Kalkaska County.
On June 13 of last year, Michigan State Police the Traverse Narcotics Team (TNT) began investigating a fentanyl overdose death in South Boardman.
MSP said detectives were able to identify the person who sold the victim the drug as 18-year-old dealer Elijah Aguero. In Benzie County, where police said Aguero was "known to frequently deal illegal narcotics," police conducted a sting operation in which Aguero sold fentanyl to an undercover officer.
Elijah Aguero, who was 17 years old at the time of the initial crime, was charged as an adult with one count of delivery of a controlled substance causing death, and was booked in the Kalkaska County jail. He was later charged by the Benzie County Prosecutor’s Office with one count of delivery of fentanyl.
Delivery of a controlled substance causing death has a maximum penalty of life in prison, and delivery of fentanyl is a 20-year felony.
MSP said TNT was assisted in this case by troopers with the Traverse City Post, as well as the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations Sault Ste Marie, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
No details were released about the person who died.
