DETROIT (WWJ) – A teenager is hospitalized in critical condition after being hit by a car on Detroit's west side Tuesday morning, an incident police believe may have been intentional.

It happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. near Evergreen and Plymouth Roads as two teen boys were walking across the street, according to a report from WXYZ.

While one teen was able to avoid the car, the other was hit and dragged around 100 feet, according to the report. The red sedan sped away from the scene.

Authorities initially began investigating the incident as a hit-and run, but investigators believe the driver may have intentionally hit the boy, according to The Detroit News.

Video shared with WXYZ shows the car first coming to a stop at the intersection as the driver prepares to turn. It then accelerates directly into the path of the teens, one of whom was able to escape.

The age of the victim was not released.

WXYZ reports the red car suspected in the crash was identified and towed by Detroit police. It's unclear whether any arrests have been made.

Anyone who knows something about the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Department's 6th Precinct at (313) 596-5600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
