DETROIT (WWJ) -- One teenager is in police custody and another is fighting for his life after a fight and shooting in Detroit.
Police said the incident happened Thursday evening in a home on Delaware near Third Avenue, on the north end of the city,
According to Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald, said two young boys, ages 6 and 8 were in an argument when several teenagers got involved,
A 13-year-old boy tried to break up the fight, police said, and a 14-year-old boy arrived at the home before a 16-year-old boy and his mother also got involved.
Fitzgerald said that's when the 16-year-old opened fire.
"He pulls out a gun and start shooting," Fitzgerald said. "He shoots the 14-year -old, striking him in the head; he is in extremely critical condition. And he also shoots his mom in the arm."
The 16-year-old shooter was taken into custody at the scene, Fitzgerald said.
Police are still investigating, but at this time they don't know where the teen got ahold of the gun.
No names have been released.
