WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) -- Rebuilding efforts are underway at Temple Israel, one week after a man rammed his truck through the front doors while the synagogue's early childhood center was in session.

Today, the temple shared some images of the aftermath that may be difficult to look at.

In a Facebook post, Temple leadership said they'd initially chosen not to make public photos of the devastation of their building, in West Bloomfield Township. However, they changed their minds after they say several videos and photos made their way into the media, "which has caused considerable harm to the survivors of last week's attack."

"Today, we are sharing some images taken by our friend, Emily Elconin, to take back control of our narrative. We share these images because our community deserves to see our building through eyes of love, not through the lens of spectacle. This is our sacred space, and we will be the ones to tell its story."

The photos seen were republished by WWJ Newsradio 950 with permission from Temple Israel. [Want to help? DONATE HERE]

There were 140 children inside the center at the time of the attack. Remarkably, none of the kids or teachers were hurt.

A security guard who was hit by the attacker's vehicle had some injuries, and multiple first responders were treated for smoke inhalation and other ailments resulting for their work fighting the fire in building.

There has been progress since the weekend, but religious services, programming, and schools remain closed because of the extent of damage done.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard will be joined Thursday afternoon by faith leaders and representatives from area law enforcement to discuss how the community is moving forward.

Officials said temple leaders are now finalizing arrangements for a temporary office location, as well as space for the early childhood center and Tyner religious school.
