DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 51-year-old man is facing a long list of criminal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting multiple women more than 20 years ago in Detroit.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged Akida Diaba Dudley for allegedly raping a woman and two teens over the course of seven years.
Authorities identified Dudley when testing decades-old rape kits — spanning from 1997 to 2004, prosecutors said in a news release Wednesday.
According to investigators, the first crime dates back to June 9, 1997. A 30-year-old victim was standing near a bus stop at Grand River and West Warren when it's alleged Dudley pulled up and forced her into his car at knifepoint.
On September 22, 1997, prosecutors said a 16-year-old victim was at a bus stop on Livernois and Fenkell when Dudley pulled up. She thought she recognized him when he offered her a ride, but after she got into his car he demanded sex and threatened to stab the victim with an ice pick when she refused.
On August 9, 2004, investigators say an 18-year-old victim was walking near Fenkell and Wyoming in Detroit when it's allegedly Dudley pulled up next to her and flashed a weapon.
In each case, prosecutors allege Dudley raped the victim in the vehicle, then left them behind while he drove off.
Dudley is charged with three counts each of Criminal Sexual Conduct First-Degree (Use of a Weapon), and Criminal Sexual Conduct Third-Degree (Force and Coercion).
Dudley was arraigned in 36th District Court Wednesday morning and was remanded to jail without bond.
His next court appearances is a Probable Cause hearing set for April 28.
Around 8,700 untested rape kids were disovered in Detroit back in 2009, including some dating back to the 1980s. The city has since cleared the backlog, and made multiple arrests, thanks to a coalition that included the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Detroit and Michigan State Police, Michigan State University researchers, and nursing and victim advocacy groups, which began its work in 2011.
Authorities believe there could be more victims in this case. Anyone who may have been assaulted by Dudley is asked to call the Wayne County Sexual Assault Kit Task Force at 313-224-2782.
